Xinnian Kuaile!

The modern Chinese society has changed a lot, but many customs and values are still reserved. The Chinese New year is about family getting together, wishing each other good luck and a prosperous year to come. To celebrate the Chinese New Year, my two sisters in Auckland arranged a family gathering, prepared a feast and all the kids, Bella, Millie and Johnny, are dressed in the traditional Chinese way, which is seldom seen nowadays except on the stage. The kids went through all the Near Year celebration ritual and enjoyed everything about the celebration, especially the lucky moeny with the red envelope. Bella is four-year-old now, and she can articulate very clearly, saying, "Gongxi! Gongxi!"(a common Chinese Near Year greeting.) That got herself a lot of red envelops! ^_^

  1. Thank you for recognising the increasing need for Chinese teaching resources for overseas Chinese children, or in our case, children who are half Chinese and half European. It's really difficult to instil the love and interest in Chinese to our kids when they are surrounded by English speakers and they don't see obvious reasons for learning it. Coobie is fun, visually attractive to young kids and my son really enjoy learning the song. Well done and keep it up!
